Aluminium extrusion

EN Standards for Extruded Aluminium

What is a standard ?

A standard is a technical document designed to be used as

  • a rule
  • a guideline or
  • a definition.

It is a consensus-built, repeatable way of doing something. Standards are created by bringing together all interested parties such as manufacturers, consumers and regulators of a particular material, product, process or service.

All parties benefit from standardization through increased product safety and quality as well as lower transaction costs and prices [1].

terms

Technical terms in the extruded aluminum products, which are used in European Standards, established in a special international document [2].

Rod

Solid wood moldings with a circular cross-section. Usually it delivered in straight lengths. Often, instead of the term «rod» uses the term «round bar». When delivered in coils it is called the «wire».

Bar

Solid wood moldings with a cross section in the form of a square, rectangle, regular hexagon or a regular octagon. Usually it delivered in straight lengths. When delivered in coils it is called the «wire», ie, "wire".

Tube

The hollow molded products, which has a cross section in the form of a cavity with a constant wall thickness, supplied in straight lengths or coils. The cross section may have a circular shape, oval, square, rectangle, equilateral triangle or a regular polygon. The inner and outer cross-sections should be concentric and have the same shape and orientation. The inner and outer corners can be rounded.

Profile

molded products, whose cross section has a shape different from that of the sheet, plate, tight, stripes, tape, wire or foil.

Condition of the material

The state of the material (temper) is the state of the metal (grade of aluminum or aluminum alloy), he received as a result of mechanical and / or thermal treatment during the manufacturing aluminum product. Usually it characterized metallurgical structure of the metal and its mechanical, as well as other properties.

Symbol states material aluminum brands and aluminum alloys in all standards, which are represented below, made according to EN 515.

  • round tubes with an external diameter of 8 mm 450 mm or
  • tubes, other than round, with a diameter of the circumscribed circle of 10 to 220 mm.

tubes “dies” in contrast to the seamless pipes have technological joints, which are formed by welding the individual metal flows when passing it through the matrix. Sometimes, these pipes are called structural unlike seamless pipe, which are designed for transmission of liquids and gases.

This standard applies only to pipes "porthole" for general technical purposes from the following aluminum alloys (in the designations of aluminum alloys, the prefix EN AW- is omitted):

  • 1050A, 1200, 1350;

Aluminum and aluminum alloys - Extruded profiles increased accuracy of alloys EN AW-6060 и EN AW-6063 - Part 1: Technical conditions for acceptance and delivery

This document sets specifications for the acceptance and delivery of high accuracy extruded of aluminum alloy EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063, including, with heat-insulating inserts (thermal inserts).

Profiles of high accuracy, which refer to this standard, different from the general purpose extruded profiles according to EN 755-9 on the following grounds:

  • designed primarily for protecting building designs, for example, windows and doors;
  • more stringent requirements for the quality of visible surfaces;
  • maximum diameter of the circumscribed circle is 350 mm;
  • manufactured with tighter dimensional and shape tolerances; for complex profiles, manufacturing with tolerances is allowed by agreement between the manufacturer and the customer.

The influence of the material of the thermal insulating insert (thermal insert) on dimensional tolerances is considered in EN 12020-2; material tolerances for thermal inserts are subject to EN 14024.

This standard specifies the tolerances on the dimensions and shape of extrusions of high accuracy aluminum alloy EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063, including with heat-insulating inserts (thermal inserts).

Differences requirements for these extrusions increased accuracy compared to extruded profiles for general use EN 755-9 look. above in the description of the standard EN 12020-1.

This European Standard specifies the tolerances on the dimensions and shape of the extruded round tubes of aluminum and aluminum alloy, manufactured with the use of matrices "porthol", with an outer diameter of 2 mm 50 mm inclusive, supplied in coils or in straight lengths, cut from the coiled tubing.

This European standard applies mainly to round pipes General purpose, Aluminum is made of some stamps series 1xxx and 3xxx series aluminum alloys. The use of this standard for other grades of aluminum series 1xxx and 3xxx series aluminum alloys, as well as other series aluminum alloys, for example, 5xxx and 6xxx, It can be made by agreement between the manufacturer and the customer.

This European standard only applies to the following types of pipes:

  • round tubes, manufactured with the use of porthole matrices or bridge matrices and supplied in coils;
  • the same pipe, but delivered in straight lengths, are cut from the coiled tubing.

This European standard does not apply to:

  • seamless precision tubes, which are made using dies and internal mandrels (EN 755-7);
  • pipes, which are pressed in straight sections (i.e. not in coils) (EN 755-8).
