Aluminum sheet products: EN standards
European standards for aluminum products
The number of different kinds and types aluminum products the world has been growing steadily. These products have different properties and quality requirements. European standards reflect the current level of quality aluminum products and meet the technological capabilities of its producers. It is now published more than 120 European standards for aluminum products.
European standards, for aluminum products in particular, characterized by clarity and transparency. Supplier and the customer should include references to standards when ordering products or contract. It gives both sides the necessary basis for negotiations in the event of a possible, when the customer is not satisfied with the products supplied to him.
Frequent cause of claims for delivered products is a simple misunderstanding, special, if the language, which is used when placing an order for products, not the native language. It is therefore important to apply in order and contract the terminology for various types of aluminum products, which is used in the relevant European standards.
The terms for flat rolled aluminum
Technical terms for aluminum products, which are used in European Standards, establishes a special international document [1].
Sheet
The term «sheet» applied to a flat rolled product with a rectangular cross-section less than the nominal thickness 6 mm, but not less 0,20 mm, which comes in the flat cut length. The term «sheet» in domestic standards corresponds to the term "sheet". (Cm. GOST 21631-76 "Sheets of aluminum and aluminum alloys").
Strip
The term «strip» applied to a flat rolled product with a rectangular cross-section less than the nominal thickness 6 mm, but not less 0,20 mm, which comes in rolls. Often, instead of «strip» term used term «coil». The term «strip» in domestic standards corresponds to the term "tape".
Plate
The term «plate» applied to a flat rolled product of rectangular section with a nominal thickness of 6 mm 400 mm, which comes in a measured length. The term «plate» corresponds to the term "cooker". (Cm. GOST 17232-99 "Plates of aluminum and aluminum alloys"). However, the thickness "plates" in the domestic standards begins with 11 mm, not with 6 mm, in European standards, or 6,25 mm, in American standards.
Below are presented the European standards on rolled aluminum sheets, tapes and plates, as well as the related aluminum products as of August 2016 years [2].
